Spray-on Urushi "Sakigake"
Normally, when lacquer for brushing is sprayed, sagging and shrinkage are likely to occur, making it technically difficult. As a result, demand for spray lacquer increased. However, conventional spray lacquer with synthetic resin paint added to lacquer has the disadvantage that the hardness of the coating film is weak after drying, so it is easy to get abrasions, and “weight loss” due to changes over time is also noticeable.
Paint for spraying minimizes these imperfections. Until now, it has been used in various places and uses, such as being used as furniture for the Kyoto State Guest House. (See photos 1, 2, and 3)
Like conventional products, polyurethane resin is added to prevent shrinkage and sagging. Among the many urethane resins, compatibility with lacquer has been tested, and resins that have a synergistic effect are selected by adding a minimum amount, without interfering with the curing of lacquer.
What is different from competitors' products is the amount of synthetic resin added to lacquer. In our case, lacquer 90-95% polyurethane resin 5-10%. It is not an idea of increasing work efficiency and making it cheaper by using more synthetic resin; conversely, it is manufactured with the idea that workability and efficiency can also be improved while maximizing the performance of lacquer by reducing it to a minimum. Other than matting, the paint is based on Korin lacquer, and the hardness of the coating film after painting is about the same as brushing lacquer, making it possible to polish the color of the paint, which was difficult with conventional spray lacquer.
The method of use is to mix the main agent (90-95% lacquer, 5-10% polyurethane resin) with 8 in a ratio of additive (polyurethane resin) 1 (excluding cases containing pigments), dilute with a special diluent, and spray. It is unusual for spray lacquer, and drying can also be adjusted from extremely fast to extremely slow.
The amount of synthetic resin added has been taken into consideration so that it conforms to JIS standards and the Buddhist Altar Fair Competition Regulations as “lacquer” and “lacquer coating.”
